Barbara Tetenbaum
Barbara Tetenbaum is an artist and book printer who has published her experimental books under the imprint of Triangular Press since 1979. Currently, she heads the Book Arts Dept. at the Oregon College of Art and Craft where she teaches book design, letter press printing and both historic and innovative book structures. Her work is held in a number of public collections including the New York Public Library, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Deutches Bucherei.
Artist’s Statement:
“My interest in bookmaking is lodged deep in the ancient arts of letter press printing and hand bookbinding. Endeavouring to revitalise these older technologies, I create books which experiment with printmaking and the book form itself. The slow, involved process of hand typesetting, printing and binding are, for me, a freeing and informative act; allowing direct control of the medium and a deeper connection to a book’s capabilities. Whether working with one-of-a-kind or larger editioned books, my aim is to cultivate a dialogue around the nature of text, image and readership while offering innovative solutions towards the survival of the book form.”
