I’m a Success

Liam O Callaghan

What is our notion of success? How does it affect our lives? How do we measure success? Is success a measure of wealth/status/and what we own? Is there too much pressure to be a ‘success’, or is society’s perception of success as narrow as we would believe it to be? If someone is asked to evaluate success in their life what will there their interpretation be? Our perception of how successful or unsuccessful we are, affects our happiness, how we deal with others and it therefore affects society as a whole.

Project Outline:

‘I’m a Success’ is a photographic project in which a hundred people of various ages, backgrounds and occupations were asked to take three photographs that show why they feel they are a success. Each participant was asked to title these images, give their first name, age and occupation(s).

The intention of the project is to explore and challenge people’s notions of success. This exhibition/book will allow viewers to compare both differences and similarities in the participants ideas of success and thus challenge the viewers own ideas. A limited edition book has been published to accompany the exhibition.
