Tabhrann an t-ealaíontóir an lucht féachana/éisteachta ar thuras céadfaíoch, ag fiosrú an bhearna idir an fhoirm agus a mhianach. Tá uigeacht mhíchothrom agus scagach an chré oibrithe go cúramach ar mhaithe le dromchla comhionann a chruthú cosúil le cad gur féidir a bhaint amach tré phróiseas meicniúil an táirgeacht. Cuireann an gné ailtireachta de na dealbha seo cuma orthu gur múnlaí laghdaithe atá iontu a chuirfeadh i gcuimhne duit gur struchtúir áirithe atá iontu: seomra; cearnóg phoiblí; cathair.

Ar an bhalla tá aon cheann déag de phictiúir gheoiméadracha déanta as adhmad. Tá dath difriúil ar gach ceann, le meascán de línte comhthreormhara a thrasnaíonn a chéile. Tré phatrúin gheoiméadracha agus réimsí chromatacha a nascadh, léiríonn na saothair balla seo aistir ar an dóigh a dtig le foirm agus dath athrú agus bogadh chun rud iomlán aeistéitiúil a chruthú.

Téann fuaim íseal tríd an spás taispeántais. Cruthaíonn na toin as alt agus na rithimí mantacha nasc leis an dá eilimint eile den suiteán. Tá na gluaiseachtaí den trí chomhpháirt seo socair agus gníomhach ag an am céanna: ag malartú giaranna, ag athrú treo, agus tig leis seo ceangal a dhéanamh leis an lucht féachana/éisteacha ar leibhéal fisiceach, inchloiste agus físiúil ag an am céanna.

 
 
 

Quite similar but actually very different

This solo exhibition by Donegal artist, Kevin Callaghan, is a responsive installation comprising of new works in clay, paintings and sound that continues the artist’s ongoing inquiry into the interplay between form and consciousness, and the potential for experiencing alternative realities.

The artist takes the audience on a sensorial journey exploring the gap between form and its potentiality. The uneven and porous texture of the clay is carefully worked to create a uniform surface like that can be achieved through a mechanical process of production. The architectural aspect of these sculptures makes them appear like scaled down models that are suggestive of certain structures: a room; a public square; a city.

On the wall are eleven geometric paintings made of wood. Each piece is coloured differently, with combinations of intersecting parallel lines. By merging geometrical patterns and different chromatic ranges, these wall pieces chart journeys of how form and colour can change and move to create a new aesthetic whole.

A low sound permeates the exhibition space. The jarring tones and jagged rhythms builds a connection with the two other elements of the installation. The movements of these three components are both static and active at the same time: switching gears, re-directing, which can connect with the audience on a physical, audible and visual levels simultaneously.
