Ealaíon na gConallach

Donegal County Council Collection

Is í Contae Dhún na nGall an lárthéama a nascann an taispeántas seo le chéile. Is iomaí ealaíontóir iomráiteach, idir dúchasach agus uchtaithe, a bhfuil nó a raibh cónaí orthu sa chontae seo atá ina foinse inspioráide do go leor, leor saothair ealaíne den chéad scoth. Is cinnte gur spreag agus gur mhúscail Dún na nGall - an cheantar inbhraite agus an cheantar síceach araon - cumas cruthaitheach iontach saibhir. D'fhéadfaí a bheith ag caibidil ar feadh fada go leor faoin chúis go ngríosaíonn agus go spreagann an chontae seo leibhéal cruthaitheach chomh hard sin ach sa deireadh thiar thall, labhrann an fhianaise ar a son féin i ngach uile disciplín ealaíne dá bhfuil ann.

Léiríonn an taispeántas seo dornán samplaí ó réimse leathan de shaothair ealaíne éagsúla a cuireadh i gcrích go dtí seo agus, fosta, atáthar a dhéanamh i láthair na huaire; níl ann ach leide ar an saibhreas ealaíon atá ar fáil sa chontae. Fuair an Gailearaí píosaí ar iasacht ó bhailiúcháin phríobháideacha agus píosaí ó chnuasach Chomhairle Chontae Dhún na nGall, cnuasach atá ina achmainn iontach  d'oidhreacht chultúrtha ealaíon na contae agus a bhfuil muid fíorbhuíoch ar a shon.

Donegal Art

Donegal County Council Collection

The County of Donegal is the central linking theme of this exhibition. It is, or has been the home of many artists of distinction, whether indigenous or adopted, and the source of inspiration for a host of original and quality works of art. Donegal, both the tangible and psychic place, has aroused and awakened rich, eloquent creative fruits. It would be a long and perhaps subjective debate to establish why this county proffers and stimulates such a level of creativity but throughout all the arts disciplines the evidence stands.

This exhibition presents just a few examples of a broad spectrum of art that has been made both in the past and currently; it is by no means a complete representation. The gallery has borrowed from private collections and a number of pieces from the Donegal County Council collection, which is a wonderful asset to the artistic cultural heritage of the county and to whom we are grateful.
